How to use PDF Tool

Edit, organize, sign, merge, compress, convert and protect PDF files — free, with no watermarks. Step-by-step guides for every tool.

Private by design: your files are stored only in your browser. Tools process them for a moment and keep nothing on our servers.

Upload a file

Everything starts on the Dashboard.

  1. 1Open the Dashboard and drag your file onto the upload box — or click it to browse.
  2. 2PDF, PNG, JPG and WebP files are supported, up to 100 MB each.
  3. 3A single PDF opens automatically in the viewer, ready to work on.

Tip: Your file is stored only in this browser. It never leaves your device until you run a tool on it, and our servers keep nothing.

Edit a PDF

Add text, shapes, drawings and images, or change existing text.

  1. 1Open the file and switch to the Edit tab.
  2. 2Use the toolbar to add text boxes, shapes, freehand drawings, or images anywhere on the page.
  3. 3Click existing text to replace it — the editor matches the original font size automatically.
  4. 4Nudge anything selected with the arrow keys: 1pt per press, 10pt with Shift, 0.25pt with Ctrl for exact baseline alignment.
  5. 5Tools stay selected until you pick another one, click the active tool again, or press Esc — so you can edit several lines in a row.
  6. 6Save your changes as a new copy, or overwrite the original.

Tip: A replaced line is really two pieces — a white patch over the original and your new text on top. They move and delete together, so the original can never reappear from underneath. Hold Alt while nudging if you need to shift just the text.

Find & replace text

Change a word everywhere it appears, across every page.

  1. 1Open the file, switch to the Edit tab, then click the magnifier (or press Ctrl+F).
  2. 2Type what to find and what to replace it with. Match case and Whole word narrow it down.
  3. 3Click Find to list every match with its page number. Jump to any of them, then Replace or Skip — or Replace all at once.
  4. 4Check the result on the page, then save as a new copy or overwrite the original.

Tip: Each replacement re-draws the whole line in the closest matching font, so spacing can shift a little — review before saving. Ctrl+Z undoes a replacement, and Replace all undoes in a single press.

Organize pages

Reorder, rotate, delete, or add pages.

  1. 1Open the file and switch to the Organize tab to see every page as a thumbnail.
  2. 2Drag pages to reorder, rotate them, delete the ones you don't need, or insert blank pages.
  3. 3Apply as a new file or replace the original. You can also split ranges into separate PDFs here.

Sign a PDF

Three ways to create your signature.

  1. 1Open the file, click Tools, then Sign.
  2. 2Draw your signature with the mouse or finger, type it in a script font, or upload an image of it.
  3. 3Choose the page, corner and size, then apply — the signed copy is saved to your library.

Fill a form

Complete interactive PDF forms without printing.

  1. 1Open the form and switch to the Form tab — every field is listed and highlighted.
  2. 2Type values, tick checkboxes and pick dropdown options.
  3. 3Optionally flatten the form so the answers can't be edited, then save.

Merge PDFs

Combine several files into one.

  1. 1On the Dashboard, click Merge PDFs.
  2. 2Select the files to combine and arrange them in the order you want.
  3. 3Merge — the combined PDF appears in your library.

Compress a PDF

Shrink big files for email and uploads.

  1. 1Open the file, click Tools, then Compress.
  2. 2Pick a level — low, medium, high, or custom DPI and quality.
  3. 3Apply and compare the before/after size, then keep it as a new file or replace the original.

Convert PDF ↔ images

Turn pages into images, or images into a PDF.

  1. 1Open a PDF, click Tools, then Convert to export pages as PNG or JPG images.
  2. 2Converted images preview right in the viewer and can be downloaded individually.
  3. 3Going the other way? Select images on the Dashboard and combine them into a single PDF.

Add page numbers

Number pages in one click.

  1. 1Open the file, click Tools, then Page numbers.
  2. 2Choose the position (six placements), the format (1, 2, 3 · 1 of N · Page 1) and the starting number.
  3. 3Apply as a new copy or overwrite the original.

Password protect & unlock

Encrypt a PDF, or remove a password you know.

  1. 1Open the file, click Tools, then Password to set a password — the PDF is encrypted with it.
  2. 2Opening a locked PDF asks for the password right in the viewer.
  3. 3To remove protection permanently, use Tools → Password → Unlock with the current password.

Tip: Unlock a protected file before using editing tools on it — encrypted files can be viewed with the password, but not modified.

Redact sensitive content

Permanently black out private information.

  1. 1Open the file and switch to the Redact tab.
  2. 2Draw boxes over everything that must be hidden — names, numbers, signatures.
  3. 3Apply. Redaction is permanent: the content underneath is destroyed, not just covered.

Watermarks & removing text

Stamp a watermark, or strip repeated text.

  1. 1To add: open the Edit tab tools and apply a text watermark with your size, angle and opacity.
  2. 2To remove: click Tools, then Remove watermark, and type the exact text to strip from every page.
  3. 3Save as a new copy or replace the original.

Download your files

Single files or everything at once.

  1. 1In the viewer, click Download to save the open file.
  2. 2On the Dashboard, tick several files and choose Download ZIP to get them all in one archive.
  3. 3Remember: files live only in this browser — download anything you want to keep elsewhere.
